Module 1: Cross-Cultural Interactions

Cross-cultural conversations are everyday interactions where people bring different communication norms, work styles, comfort levels, and personal experiences into the room. These differences can shape how people interpret tone, emotion, curiosity, or meaning. Most misunderstandings in these conversations don’t happen because someone intends harm—they occur when people enter a moment with different expectations, different emotional stakes, or different levels of conversational depth.

This module introduces the Five Levels of Cross-Cultural Conversation, a practical framework for understanding how depth and meaning operate in everyday interactions. By learning how these levels influence connection and interpretation—and how easily intent and impact can disconnect—learners strengthen collaboration, reduce misinterpretation, and build healthier working relationships.
