In his book entitled The Diversity Explosion: How New Racial Demographics are Remaking America, William Frey describes how 2011 was a landmark year in our country’s history where more minority babies were born than white babies in a single year. Soon, most minority children like Hispanics, Blacks, Asians, and other nonwhite races will constitute an absolute majority. This milestone signals the beginning of a demographic shift from a white-dominated culture and workplace during the last half of the twentieth century to the more globalized, multiracial country that the United States is becoming. This shift needs to be understood and embraced by organizations if the workplace is to provide an inclusive and equitable working environment that reflects the demographics that encompass it.
