The Oxford Dictionary defines bias as "a strong feeling in favor of or against one group of people, or one side in an argument." Bias is a key element to be considered when creating an equitable and inclusive workplace environment where all viewpoints are welcome. While bias is common among all humans and can assist us in learning about ourselves and others, bias in the workplace can have significant negative consequences for individuals and organizations if not understood and addressed.

In this course, you'll be guided through a conversation about the importance of the types of bias we encounter in the workplace; specifically, the impact bias can have on effective decision making, the competencies needed to recognize and address our own biases, and that of others. These conversations will aid in developing an individualized action plan to assist you in establishing a workplace where different types of bias are discussed and addressed to create a more equitable, inclusive, and diverse workplace.

I Will Learn How To:

  • Identify the types of biases in a workplace and how these biases can affect effective workplace functioning.
  • Articulate competencies that can address and overcome the biases we and others can bring into the workplace.
  • Develop a written plan to reduce implicit biases and create a workplace where diversity, equity, and inclusion are practiced.
